Hello _____,
My name is ________ and I am currently a (junior) at TAMUK. I play _______, and I study with Dr. ________. I would like to welcome you to the Pride of South Texas Javelina Marching Band! I am very excited to have you, along with eight new members, join this amazing ensemble. I was given the honor of being your Fall 2018 section leader and I cannot wait to get to know all of you guys. I have heard a lot of great things about all of you from Dr. _____ and I am excited to see what all the excitement is about. When you arrive in the fall, the start of the season will begin with a day of auditions and marching basics for freshman, and the rest of the week will consist of marching block, learning of drill, and sectionals. This whole process will be challenging, but I promise that it will be equally as fun and rewarding as the season progresses. The things you will need when you attend this first week of marching band is:
· Pre-Game Music
· Show Music
· Good Comfortable Shoes
· A Water Jug (A water bottle is provided, but it may be too small, depending on how much water you drink)
· A Hat
· Sunglasses
· Sun Screen
Also, you must sign up for this marching season on our website @ TamukBands.com. (Hover over where is says Bands>Javelina Marching Band>New Member Info fill out what is applicable to you). Third, you can print the music for this season, the show and pre-game music on our website as well. This music will eventually have to be all memorized so work on learning and memorizing the music leading up to your move-ins. For your audition you will have to play an excerpt from the first movement of our show, the excerpt will be chosen on the day of your audition so have everything prepared. In addition, bring an etude of your choosing (this could be your all-state etudes) to play as well. (Pick your own cut for this).
This ensemble is quite an experience and all of us in the studio are excited to share the memories, laughs, and passion we have on the field with you. As you enter this ensemble and school year, never be afraid to ask questions, we are all here to help you guys out. If you have any questions before entering summer band you are more than welcome to email me or contact me in any way, along with going to www.tamukbands.com. I hope you have a wonderful, safe summer, and we cannot wait to see all of you guys!!!
Dances of Earth and Fire
I will be posting practice videos of my work on Dances of Earth and Fire here. I'm making these to show my progress on this piece for performance and to give my students some idea of the process I use in learning a work like this.
